Building to Provide Value — A Reflection on Code Africa 2.0 Hackathon

The recently concluded Code Africa 2.0 Hackathon was more than just a coding event — it was a space to unlock potential, validate ideas, and showcase the power of building with purpose. As one of the lead organizers, I had the opportunity not only to facilitate innovation but to witness firsthand how much value can be created when builders are given the tools and community to thrive.
Why We Build
Technology for the sake of technology doesn't cut it anymore. At Code Africa 2.0, we emphasized one thing: build to solve real problems. Whether it was Web3 projects solving issues of verification and transparency, or AI solutions enhancing data-driven insights, our builders showed up with intention.
One of my biggest takeaways from this hackathon was that building to provide value doesn't mean you need to have it all figured out. Many of the participants started with just curiosity, and they walked away with MVPs, feedback from industry leaders, and in some cases — paths to accelerators.
Web3 and AI — The Future Is Now
It was especially inspiring to see how the tracks in Web3 and AI drove bold experimentation. Teams didn't just code—they validated, they pivoted, they pitched.
We saw projects like:
- 🥇 Chain Rivals, an AI-powered platform, secure the top spot in the AI track
- 🥇 Attensys, a blockchain-based education platform, take first in the Web3 track
- 🥇 ABI Explorer,a developer extension designed to help buld smart contracts
These winning teams are now being positioned for the next stage — accelerator programs that could turn their ideas into full-fledged startups.
The Power of Community
I'm incredibly grateful to the One Dev team, our judges, and mentors for making this event a success. From curation to coordination, this was a true team effort. Watching hackers help each other debug, share resources, and collaborate across disciplines was the highlight of the experience for me.
Events like these prove that Africa has the talent — it just needs the stage.
What's Next?
This isn't the end. For many of us, it's just the beginning. We'll be working with selected teams post-hackathon to further refine their solutions and connect them with potential partners and opportunities.
If there's one thing I've learned, it's this:
When you build to provide value, doors open.
Thanks again to everyone who showed up, shipped code, and shared their ideas. Let's keep building.
